Diablo IV launched after much anticipation on June 5th this year. The action role-playing game is one of the most talked-about launches of the year, however, in the last few days, there have been multiple reports of the game crashing abruptly on PC.
Players are disappointed to find out that Diablo IV is frequently crashing or freezing at random times, which forces the game to close. The issue is limited to PCs so far. So what is the reason behind the error, and how can you fix it? Read on to find out.
Players Report Diablo IV Keeps Crashing on PC
The issue became prevalent in the last week, with more and more players facing error and connectivity problems. For some users, the game crashed and closed as soon as the screen loaded, while for others, it froze on loading a dungeon.
“My game crashed during the cutscene when I went to the guy’s cabin and examined the strange skull. Now that I’m back to the skull, I can’t click on it. What the hell do I do??” wrote a frustrated player.
On June 30th, Blizzard Entertainment finally acknowledged that they are working on resolving the issue. “We are aware of the reports of crashes and increased latency since the patch. Our teams are actually looking to existing threads on the subject collecting data for their investigations,” wrote the developers.
How to Fix Diablo IV Crash Issue on PC?
While Blizzard works on the error, here are some steps you can follow to try fixing the issue:
- Clear Cache: Delete shader cache by going to Windows Settings → System → Temporary Files. Then check every DirectX Shader Cache and click on remove.
- Check File Integrity: The game could crash due to some corrupt files in the installation directory. Check for damaged items by accessing the Batte.net client and clicking on Scan and Repair. This will replace the corrupt files.
- Update Graphics Preference: If the graphics are not set to High Performance, there is a possibility that Diablo IV could freeze. To make sure that the graphics are optimized for the game, go to Windows Settings and select Graphics. Then select Diablo IV, navigate to options, and check High Performance.
